Italy
Italy’s fine wine landscape is both historic and evolving, with the rise of the Super Tuscan movement marking a pivotal moment. Pioneering wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello broke with tradition to blend international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Sangiovese, elevating Tuscany onto the global stage. Staying in Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino delivers some of the country’s most compelling expressions of Sangiovese - powerful yet poised, with producers such as Il Poggione setting the benchmark for depth and longevity. Further north, Barolo produces some of Italy’s greatest wines: bold, structured Nebbiolo with remarkable ageing potential. Elsewhere, regions like Puglia and Sicily are producing increasingly refined wines, from rich, sun-soaked reds to fresh, saline whites shaped by coastal influences.
