Chile has emerged as one of South America's great wine producing countries, shaped by the dramatic geography of the Andes Mountains and Pacific Ocean. Long, dry growing seasons, intense sunlight and cooling influences from altitude and the coast create excellent conditions for slow, even ripening, with regions such as the Maipo, Aconcagua and Colchagua Valleys producing wines of impressive concentration, freshness and purity.

Cabernet Sauvignon remains at the heart of Chilean fine wine, particularly in Maipo and Aconcagua, while Carmenère has become the country's signature variety. One of Chile's landmark wines, Seña, was founded as a collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi and helped demonstrate the potential for world-class, age worthy Bordeaux inspired blends from the Aconcagua Valley. Elsewhere, cooler coastal regions are producing increasingly refined Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, adding another dimension to Chilean wine.
