Mas de Daumas Gassac, Rouge 2022, Languedoc, 75cl
Founded in the late 1960s by Aimé Guibert and his wife Véronique, Mas de Daumas Gassac was born from their recognition of the extraordinary potential of the remote Gassac valley. With early guidance from legendary oenologist Émile Peynaud, the estate transformed perceptions of the quality possible in the region. Often referred to as “the Lafite of the Languedoc”, the world-famous red is an intriguing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside indigenous and less common southern varieties such as Grenache, Cinsault and Tempranillo. The 2016 is one of the finest vintages from the domaine, characterised by tremendous freshness, ripe blackcurrant fruit, spicy complexity and a long, elegant palate.
"Bitter almond, beeswax, arbutus, and black berries reflect the enchanting environment of the estate’s vineyards. The 2022 IGP Saint-Guilhem-Le-Désert Cité D’Aniane is fresh, supple, vertical, refined, and complex, with a silky, airy texture, as if the southern sun had no hold over it and it defies the scorching heat. It is an exercise in elegance, with absolutely perfect drinkability and finesse. A great wine for aging, it nevertheless does not forget to be magnificently delicious even now. A Languedoc wine straight out of a book. Drink 2025-2045." 97/100 Jeb Dunnuck
