Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot, Gevrey Chambertin 2017, 75cl
Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is one of the rising stars of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, a family owned estate with an extraordinary collection of vineyards, including six Grand Crus. Under talented winemaker Thomas Colladot, who previously worked at Domaine Sylvain Cathiard, the domaine has developed an excellent reputation for beautifully pure, refined Pinot Noir that combines impressive concentration with elegance and a wonderful expression of terroir.
The Gevrey Chambertin comes from several parcels of mature vines across the appellation. A beautifully expressive Pinot Noir, it offers ripe cherry, strawberry and cassis fruit, complemented by subtle notes of spice, woodland earth and gentle oak. The palate is silky and finely textured, with lovely freshness, delicate tannins and impressive depth and length. The approachable, charming character of the 2017 vintage makes this a particularly attractive example of village Gevrey Chambertin.
"The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from four sectors, 50% in the south and 50% in the north of the appellation, and was completely de-stemmed. This shows just a bit of reduction on the nose, although that will be resolved by bottling time. The medium-bodied palate is fresh and sorbet-like, displaying grainy tannin and kirsch and cassis notes toward the joyous finish. Expect a decade of drinking pleasure. Drink 2020-2030."
