2023 Pinot Noir, Dog Point
Founded by former Cloudy Bay viticulturist Ivan Sutherland and winemaker James Healy, Dog Point has become one of Marlborough's most respected producers. Certified organic and farmed with meticulous attention to detail, the estate's Pinot Noir comes from low-yielding clay hillside vineyards planted as early as 1983. Hand harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new), it is a beautifully refined expression of Marlborough Pinot Noir that combines purity, complexity and impressive ageing potential.
Perfumed and expressive, with lifted aromas of rose petals, violets, red cherry and wild raspberry layered with subtle dried herbs, brown spice and a hint of smoky oak. The palate is silky and beautifully poised, offering succulent red berry and cherry fruit framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Elegant rather than powerful, the long finish is marked by savoury spice, floral perfume and impressive precision, making this a wonderfully food-friendly Pinot Noir that will continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade.
