2013 Cont'ugo Merlot, Guado al Tasso
Cont’Ugo is produced exclusively from Merlot grapes in order to interpret the territory of Bolgheri from a new perspective. The vineyards, situated at an altitude between 150 and 200 feet (45-60 meters) above sea level on clayey-loam soils prevalently of alluvial origin, give Cont’Ugo great depth and complexity while conserving the fragrance and richness of fruit which are typical of Merlot.
"The 2013 Bolgheri Cont'Ugo is once again terrific. Expressive, floral aromatics balance the generosity of Bolgheri Merlot in a refined, impeccably balanced wine loaded with personality. Just bottled, the 2013 is remarkably expressive today. I imagine it will be even better and more delicious in another 6-12 months. In particular, the wine's precision - far from a guarantee in Bolgheri - is super-appealing. Hints of violet, crushed rose petal and black cherry are laced into the finish. Since its introduction a few years ago, the Cont'Ugo remains one of the hidden gems in the Antinori range. Drink 20016-2025." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
