2008 Chateau le Castelot, St Emilion Grand Cru (Magnum)
Chateau le Castelot benefits from a beautiful micro-climate, protected from northerly winds by the hill of the nearby Château Quintus, and allowing the grapes to mature excellently. 70% Merlot for roundness, 30 % Cabernet Franc for elegance. The vineyard is siliceous on gravelly, ferruginous subsoil and produces wines with fine bouquet and great finesse, capable of ageing well for 10 to 25 years depending on the vintage.
Château Castelot was awarded the Trophée des Honneurs by the town of Saint-Émilion. Its name was given to it by Henry IV in 1578.
