2016 Albis Maipo Valley, Haras de Pirque
Albis is the flagship wine of Haras de Pirque, the collaboration between Chile’s Maipo Valley estate and Italy’s legendary Antinori family. Made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Carménère, the wine comes from vineyards planted high in the foothills of the Andes on well-drained alluvial soils. Cool mountain influences allow for slow, even ripening, preserving freshness and elegance. Hand-harvested fruit is vinified parcel by parcel before ageing in French oak barrels, creating a wine of depth and refinement rather than sheer power.
"This has good depth, the tannins and ripe flavors building nicely on the palate with a ton of fresh-blackberry and floral character. Good length for a 2016. A blend of 81 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 19 per cent carmenere." James Suckling
