2022 El Enemigo Chardonnay
Alejandro Vigil has been ageing his top Chardonnays under flor, a thin layer of yeast, to make creamy and incredibly rich whites with plenty of interest and saltiness that will reward a few years in bottle. A steal for this quality. Pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy mushroom dishes, grilled seafood or buttery sauces, where its layered texture, savoury complexity and subtle salinity enhance depth and flavour.
El Enemigo, the collaboration between longtime Catena winemaker Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena, has received widespread critical acclaim in recent years for its extraordinary wines from high-altitude sites in the Uco Valley just outside Mendoza.
"The 2022 Chardonnay hails from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, with some under velo de flor, this bright green-gold wine reveals aromas of peaches and pears with a hint of cashew and a slightly oaky backdrop. Dry and lean, the palate lingers with a chalky mouthfeel. This is a modern high-altitude Chardonnay. Drink 2024-2031." Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous.com
