Cecilia Beretta, Brognoligo Soave Classico 2024, 75cl
From the historic Brognoligo vineyards in the heart of Soave Classico, this is a particularly characterful expression of 100% Garganega. The grapes come from pergola-trained vines around 45 years old, rooted in the region’s distinctive volcanic soils. At ripeness, the fruiting canes are cut and the grapes left on the vine for a further two to three weeks, gently concentrating the fruit before being harvested by hand. Most of the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then rested on its fine lees, preserving freshness and purity, while around 10% is fermented in French oak, adding a little extra richness and texture.
Gently floral on the nose, with ripe peach, pear, citrus and orchard fruit, the palate is fresh and savoury but has a lovely creamy weight and concentration. Soave’s characteristic mineral freshness runs through the wine, leading to a long, gently almondy finish.
A lovely example of what Soave Classico can offer beyond simple, refreshing Italian white, combining ripe fruit and texture with freshness, minerality and plenty of character. Excellent with grilled fish, seafood risotto, creamy pasta, roast chicken or antipasti.
