Tignanello, like Sassicaia, holds a special place in the history of Italian wine. First made in 1970, 'Tig' was a groundbreaking blend of the local Sangiovese with international Cabernet Sauvignon.  Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, the vineyard lies at 350–400 metres, with a south-westerly exposure and rocky, limestone-rich soils.  The wine is matured in small oak barrels before further ageing in bottle and combines the fragrance and freshness of Sangiovese with the depth and structure of Cabernet, typically showing ripe cherry, plum and dark berry fruit alongside spice, tobacco, liquorice and touches of chocolate and cedar. Rich and beautifully refined, it balances impressive concentration with vibrant acidity, polished tannins and a long, persistent finish.  Superb with roast or grilled beef, lamb, wild boar or venison, as well as classic Tuscan dishes, rich ragù and mature hard cheeses such as aged Pecorino.

The 2021 is regarded as an exceptional vintage, with Antinori describing it as one of the finest ever at the estate.

"The 2021 Tignanello is every bit as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel and then just after bottling. Silky and polished, with exceptional finesse, the 2021 has all the pedigree to become a modern benchmark for Tignanello and Italian wine more broadly. Bright dark red fruit, blood orange, spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco all soar out of the glass, framed by a discreet touch of French oak that adds raciness. In some vintages, the elements are discernible. In 2021, it is the total harmony of the wine that makes the strongest and deepest impression. The 2021 spent 17 months in wood, three months in neutral oak during the malolactic fermentation and then 14 months (50% new) for the rest of its aging. Superb. Drink 2027-2051."  Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
