Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines Extra Brut LC11 Champagne 75cl
Mentored by the legendary Anselme Selosse, Jérôme Prévost has become one of Champagne's most revered grower-producers. From just over 2 hectares of old-vine Pinot Meunier in the village of Gueux, released under the La Closerie label. Les Béguines is sourced from calcareous sand and clay soils and vinified in a distinctly Burgundian style, with spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels, no fining or filtration, minimal sulphur and very low dosage. Produced in tiny quantities, each LC (Lot de Composition) release has become one of Champagne's most sought after cult wines, admired for its singular expression of Pinot Meunier and remarkable sense of place. LC11 is built around the 2011 base vintage, marrying the richness and concentration of the year with remarkable freshness, precision and mineral tension.
"Jérôme Prévost farms just over two hectares of old-vine Pinot Meunier in the village of Gueux, where the soils are a millefeuille of calcareous sands and clays. Working with a variety that's often sneered at, in a village few had heard of and with terroirs that are far removed from the clay-chalk stereotype that dominates discussion of Champagne, Prévost's tiny estate named La Closèrie nonetheless produces some of the most sought-after wines in Champagne."
