2016 Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge
Founded in the late 1960s by Aimé Guibert and his wife Véronique, Mas de Daumas Gassac was born from their recognition of the extraordinary potential of the remote Gassac valley. With early guidance from legendary oenologist Émile Peynaud, the estate transformed perceptions of the quality possible in the region. Often referred to as “the Lafite of the Languedoc”, the world-famous red is an intriguing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside indigenous and less common southern varieties such as Grenache, Cinsault and Tempranillo. The 2016 is one of the finest vintages from the domaine, characterised by tremendous freshness, ripe blackcurrant fruit, spicy complexity and a long, elegant palate.
"The 2016 Rouge is a stunner. Swirling the glass unlocks magnificent garrigue, crushed violets, cassis pastilles, licorice and verbena tea elements. Built around a core of polished tannins and kept in check by refreshing acidity, the quintessential 2016 superbly marries power and finesse. Closing with a persistent finish, it comes with secure aging potential and deserves a round of applause. Drink 2031-2051." Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous.com
