Uruguay
Uruguay is one of South America's most distinctive wine-producing countries, shaped by a temperate climate and the cooling influence of the Atlantic Ocean. Its signature grape is Tannat, which has become synonymous with Uruguayan wine, producing deeply coloured, structured reds that combine dark fruit and concentration with freshness and increasingly refined tannins.
The coastal region of Maldonado has emerged as an exciting source of fine wine, led by Bodega Garzon. Its vineyards lie just inland from the Atlantic on free draining, weathered granite soils, producing expressive Tannat, alongside varieties such as Albariño, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
From powerful yet polished Tannat to fresh, aromatic coastal whites, Uruguay combines distinctive terroir, Atlantic freshness and a character all its own.
