2008 Patrimonio, Domaine Leccia
"Leccia 2008 Patrimonio red – Niellucciu with a bit of Grenache – is redolent of ripe dark cherry, dried cranberry, rosemary, and marjoram, with dark, woodsy, iodine-like and saline shadings emerging on a rich, juicy, and very finely-tannic palate. This finishes with a sappily fruity, pungently herbal, and palate-staining mineral presence. There will be enough pleasurable intrigue here for a decade. Drink 2011 - 2021.
Yves Leccia’s estate (also known as Domaine d’E Croce) is among the two most respected in Corsica’s most renowned vineyard sector, Patrimonio (near the base of the island’s prominently pointing northern finger). The terrain known as E Croce is characterized by schist overlain with chalk clay. Ironically, given that his name means “oak,” Leccia’s wines are raised entirely in stainless steel, and even his reds are bottled after only 12 months, though held subsequently before release."
