"The 2000 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru is (like many millennial red Burgundies) a real surprise. The bouquet is lively and joyous with red cherries, sea spray and just a touch of peony, all well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of tightly-knit red fruit laced with bay leaf and Earl Grey, and with a tart, brisk finish.
