Spotlight On: Raymond Usseglio
Domaine Raymond Usseglio has firmly established itself as one of the Southern Rhône’s top estates. Third-generation vigneron Stéphane Usseglio crafts wines of exceptional depth and purity, sourcing from some of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s finest terroirs - including century old Grenache vines near Chateau Rayas. From the richly textured Cuvée Impériale to the delicious rare white Pure Roussanne, these are critically acclaimed cuvées that will delight now but continue gaining complexity in the cellar for a decade or more. A real benchmark for great modern Chateauneuf du Pape and a must have for all Rhone lovers.
“Readers looking for the next superstar estate in Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône need to get on Raymond Usseglio’s bandwagon ASAP as the quality here is equal to anything out there today.“ Jeb Dunnuck
The Pure Roussanne is made entirely from 100% old-vine Roussanne, this is a rich, textured, and age-worthy white. Grown on limestone-rich soils and aged in demi-muids, it offers honeyed stone fruit, white flowers, almond, and fresh herbs, all wrapped in a vibrant mineral frame. The 2020 vintage is a real favourite of ours - remarkable freshness and balance and drinking beautifully now.
Domaine Raymond Usseglio’s Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Impériale is one of the region’s great wines, made from low yielding, old-vine Grenache (planted 1901) grown on galet-strewn soils. Fermented with whole clusters and aged in concrete, it delivers incredible depth, purity, and intensity without heaviness.
