Backpacking Spain
Be enchanted by the wines of Spain with this mouth watering 6 bottle selection. Begin in the North with a vibrant fresh Albarino from the Atlantic coast and make your way down through Ribera del Duero, Rioja and Murcia to the sun drenched Canary Islands.
2022 Albarino Zarate, Zarate – An elegant and refreshing Albarino straight from the wild coasts of Galicia. This has a beautiful minerality with vibrant citrus, creamy peach and apricot and a tingling almost salty finish. A great match for seafood.
2021 Louro de Bolo, Rafael Palacios – A youthful straw colour with intense aromas of citrus, wild mountain flowers, fennel and flinty nuances. Fruit-forward with a taut, saline minerality and a textural complexity that showcases the beauty of the Godello grape.
2020 Picaro Del Aguila Clarete, Dominio del Aguila – Clarete is a style traditional to Ribera del Duero with red and white grapes co fermented. Reminiscent of a great Burgundy, this is deep and complex with pungent floral notes, smoky red fruit, blood orange, flint and white pepper.
2014 Rioja Reserva, Remelluri – A pretty serious Rioja made by the highly regarded Telmo Rodriguez that focuses on the purity of fruit. Organic viticulture, fine-grained tannins and pure elegance. Tempranillo, Garnacha & Graciano.
2021 Monastrell, Casa Castillo – Spanish-native Monastrell (also known as Mourvedre) from the relatively cool slopes of the Sierra del Molar in Murcia. A spicy, savoury and full-bodied red that has become a benchmark for this variety.
2020 Taganan Tinto, Envinate – A very fine field blend from Tenerife including Listán Negro, Listán Gaucho, Malvasia Negra and Negramoll that is a favourite of Sommeliers the world over. Smoky and spicy with vibrant juicy red berry fruit and a wonderful silky mouthfeel.
