2022 Lost In You Bacchus, Gutter & Stars
This Essex Bacchus is packed with attitude and punch. It’s edgy and electric with white peach, gooseberry and lanolin characters, and a racy but rounded grapefruit acidity. A fresh and textured Bacchus which benefits from maturation time in barrel, rounding off the ‘English acidity’ and pronouncing the stone fruit and citrus characters.
Gutter & Stars is proud to be Cambridge’s first winery, housed in the basement of a Grade II-listed windmill less than a mile from the city centre. The space itself is bijou (just 33m2) but it is big enough for a rack of ex-Burgundy barrels, a handful of tanks - including a natty egg-shaped fermenter from Germany - and all the equipment and fittings needed to make quality wine.
"Ripe peach, Yuzu zest, lemongrass, and a touch of passion fruit on the nose indicate a warm year. Crisp on the palate with juicy peach and creamy golden apple, the rounded texture is refreshed by zingy citrus acidity, leading to dried yellow fruits on the finish. Despite the ripe fruits, the alcohol sits at just 10.5% in this easy-drinking Bacchus sourced from the Yew Tree Vineyard in Oxfordshire and Brenley Farm in Kent. Whole-bunch pressed and fermented in old American oak, followed by ageing on fine lees in old Burgundy barrels for eight months." Decanter
