2022 The Automatic Earth Pinot Noir, Gutter & Stars
2022 was a great year for English wine, & Pinot Noir especially, thanks to a long summer and several mini-heatwaves in July & August. Cambridge winemaker Gutter & Stars made this beautiful Pinot Noir from grapes grown near Faversham, Kent, before vinifying in their converted windmill a mile from Cambridge city centre. With a red fruit tang on the nose there’s real depth of character with strawberry, black pepper and red liquorice notes all contributing to the expressive mouthfeel.
Gutter & Stars is proud to be Cambridge’s first winery, housed in the basement of a Grade II-listed windmill less than a mile from the city centre. The space itself is bijou (just 33m2) but it is big enough for a rack of ex-Burgundy barrels, a handful of tanks - including a natty egg-shaped fermenter from Germany - and all the equipment and fittings needed to make quality wine.
